United Efforts Deliver Critical Aid to Ukraine

In an inspiring demonstration of resilience, collaboration, and generosity, November saw the culmination of months of dedicated efforts to support Ukraine. Two 40-foot shipping containers filled with urgently needed medical supplies, surgical consumables, and life-saving equipment are now on their way to the war-torn country, thanks to the united efforts of grassroots Ukrainian-American communities, established charities, and international medical organizations.

This story reflects the power of collaboration—everyday people working hand-in-hand with organizations to achieve a common goal: saving lives in Ukraine.

A Collaborative Effort That Overcame Challenges

This extraordinary mission began as a joint effort between the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) and the Global Medical Knowledge Alliance (GMKA), a charity committed to improving cancer and trauma care globally. UCCA provided much of the financial support for the project, contributing significant funding and lending logistical expertise to ensure the first container reached its destination. Despite the funds already raised, it wasn’t enough.  A call went out through the Ukrainian-American community over many states that funds were desperately needed to save the project. A chain of events, phone calls, and emails finally led to an incredibly generous gift by the Woskobijnyk family of Pennsylvania, with Ukrainian-American businessman George Woskobijnyk answering the call and fully funding the second container, ensuring that even more life-saving supplies could be delivered.

The Humanitarian Impact

Each container, provided by Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, carries up to $300,000 worth of critical medical supplies at a fraction of that cost—just $8,000 to prepare and an additional $7,500 to $9,000 for shipping. The supplies are headed to AICM Ukraine, a trusted partner of UCCA that provides medical aid to hundreds of hospitals and clinics on the front lines. These supplies will support physicians and save countless lives, making an immeasurable difference in the fight for Ukraine’s survival.

The Need Is Still Great

While these containers represent a remarkable achievement, they are only a drop in the ocean compared to the overwhelming medical needs in Ukraine. Each day, civilians, including children and the elderly, are targeted by missiles, drones, and artillery. Brave soldiers defending their homeland face immense challenges with limited resources.
