War leaves wounds far beyond the battlefield. In Ukraine, relentless missile strikes and drone attacks have shattered not only cities and homes but the country’s vital healthcare system. Hospitals and clinics are overflowing with patients, while life-saving medical supplies dwindle under the strain of a war that shows no signs of slowing.
At Spotlight Ukraine, since the start of the full-scale invasion, we’ve been dedicated to recognizing and telling the stories of the Difference Makers across the globe who have stepped up to support Ukraine in its darkest hours. From grassroots volunteers to global humanitarian networks, these individuals and organizations embody the power of compassion and solidarity. Their efforts remind us that even amid unimaginable destruction, humanity’s capacity to help, to care, and to hope endures—and saves lives.
This is another story of such hope—a testament to the people around the world who refuse to look away as the courageous and resilient Ukrainian people fight to preserve their freedom. Today, our story recognizes the work of two organizations dedicated to supporting Ukraine, even as public attention on Ukraine has faded and donations to their organizations have slowed immensely since the start of the war. Time can do that—numb people to conflicts precisely when it is most important not to look away. A few months into the invasion, we wrote about this very phenomenon of psychic numbing—how prolonged exposure to tragedy can dull empathy and weaken resolve. Despite the challenges of sustaining support, organizations like the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America and Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach continue to make an impact. Today we’re highlighting their collaboration on a recent shipment of urgently needed medical equipment that offers a critical lifeline to Ukraine’s exhausted health services—and a powerful reminder that each of us can play a part in saving lives. Read on for the full story.

Urgent Medical Shipment Delivered to Help Ukraine’s Health System in Crisis
The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America donated the funds for the shipment, while Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach sourced the medical supplies.
The State of the War and Ukrainian Health Services
The war in Ukraine has entered an era marked by increasingly frequent deadly attacks, missile bombardments, and drone strikes. These assaults are indiscriminate, targeting civilian and military sites alike, and impacting the entire population of Ukraine. The constant attacks place immense strain on Ukraine’s hospitals, clinics, and medical institutions, along with their staff, as well as access to essential supplies and life-saving equipment. Across the country, both civilian and military hospitals are operating near full capacity and are running dangerously low on critical medical equipment.
What’s Being Done to Help
To boldly address the scarcity of supplies and ease the pressure on Ukrainian medical services, U.S.-based nonprofits are stepping up. The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, provided funding for a 40-foot shipping container filled with medical supplies. UCCA, one of the largest umbrella organizations of Ukrainian American groups, represents the interests of over 2 million Ukrainian Americans and is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year. Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach (HSMO), also a 501(c)(3) organization, sourced the supplies and filled the container.

You Can Help Make A Difference
Funding for these shipments is never guaranteed. Partnerships and cooperation between nonprofits, initiatives, and individuals are vital in securing and delivering life-saving aid to Ukrainians. Without the support of individual and organizational donors, Ukrainians will continue to suffer—and lives will be lost.
Getting Aid to Those in Need
The recipient of the aid was AICM Ukraine, an organization that regularly assists more than 350 hospitals, clinics, and medical institutions throughout Ukraine. Beyond distributing medical supplies and humanitarian aid, AICM Ukraine delivers aid directly to medical facilities, trains and connects medical professionals, and engages in scientific collaboration in the medical field with partner institutions in France.
What Next
Ukrainian forces continue to face daunting challenges, and the massing of Russian troops along the frontlines remains a dire threat to both Ukraine and the future of a free Europe. Shifting priorities in the U.S. government, as well as escalating conflicts in the Middle East and other emerging crises have reduced focus on Ukraine – and much-needed support. Meanwhile, fatigue and a sense of numbness toward the war have caused public support to wane, leaving nonprofits and aid networks struggling with fewer resources—at a time when help for Ukraine is needed more than ever.
Yet despite the darkness of these times, the resilience of the Ukrainian people has not waned. They continue to fight—for their homes, their freedom, and the right to determine their own future. Their steadfast determination continues to inspire countless supporters around the world, as well as organizations such as UCCA and Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, to keep standing with Ukraine. But even as Ukraine presses on with all its might, determination alone cannot win this fight—they urgently need continued support from the global community to sustain their efforts and ensure access to critical resources like medical care and humanitarian aid.
You can help make a real difference. Every act of solidarity, every donation, and every voice raised in support matters and helps to save lives. If you’d like to make a tangible difference, consider supporting the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America’s ongoing efforts to deliver medical aid and humanitarian relief.
