Spotlight Ukraine continues its series on grassroots collaboration and unwavering support for Ukraine at a time when it’s needed most. As international headlines shift and donor fatigue sets in, a determined network of organizations and individuals remains focused on delivering tangible help — and hope — to Ukrainians under siege.
In this story, we shine a light on a new shipment of medical aid now headed to Ukraine — and introduce to our Spotlight Ukraine community a vital partner in that effort: the Ukrainian Cultural Club of Dallas (UCCD). Since the earliest days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, UCCD has been tirelessly organizing fundraisers, collecting supplies, and rallying support for the people of Ukraine. Now, they’ve joined forces with two longtime partners in this mission — the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) and Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach — to ensure that life-saving aid continues to reach those who need it most.
This article picks up where our recent story left off and we highlighted the successful June shipment of medical supplies organized by UCCA, with materials sourced by Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach. Now, in July, another container is on its way — this time powered by a spirit of cooperation and generosity, with UCCD playing a pivotal role in helping secure and send the shipment.
These efforts represent far more than aid and logistics — they embody an ongoing commitment to saving lives amid escalating humanitarian need. The dedication of these organizations and the people behind the scenes making things happen deserve recognition — and serve as a powerful reminder of what’s possible when people and purpose-driven organizations unite for good.
Why This Aid Matters Now More Than Ever
While global attention on the crisis in Ukraine has drifted to other headline news, the war in Ukraine has intensified. Russian missile and drone strikes continue to target civilian infrastructure, hospitals, and power stations. Medical supply chains are under siege. According to recent reporting by NPR and other news outlets, many Ukrainian hospitals are operating without consistent access to electricity or sterile equipment, and frontline medical responders are relying heavily on humanitarian shipments to meet basic care standards.
Children’s hospitals have reported surging trauma cases, and rural clinics are often the first — and only — point of care for injured civilians and displaced families.

“These containers are more than supplies — they’re lifelines. With every shipment, they’re saving thousands of lives across Ukraine. That’s what’s at stake — and why we can’t stop.”
Amid this devastation, aid like the containers powered and coordinated by UCCA, UCCD, and Hospital Sisters is not just helpful — it is essential. Every box packed, every dollar donated, and every shipment delivered represents the difference between life and death for many Ukrainians.
Ukrainians in Dallas: From Cultural Pride to Lifesaving Aid
The Ukrainian Cultural Club of Dallas (UCCD) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization originally created to primarily support Ukrainian cultural events in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. UCCD collaborates closely with the Zorya Ukrainian Dancers of Dallas and Veselka Ukrainian Folk Singers to bring Ukrainian art and folk traditions to the North Texas community.
The club also hosts a plethora of educational events for Ukrainians, their descendants, and anyone interested in the history, music, literature, and culture of Ukraine. But when Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, UCCD shifted direction — fast.
As Russia started a full-blown war against Ukraine, their efforts transitioned 100% to focus on fundraisers and events that support humanitarian aid causes in Ukraine.”
Today, they are not just preserving heritage — they are preserving lives.

More Than Just a Club
Since the full-scale invasion and launch of Spotlight Ukraine, we have gotten to know many Ukrainian groups across the United States. Among them, UCCD stands out as one of the most dedicated and active. In addition to keeping Ukrainian culture alive, they are helping to keep people in Ukraine alive.
They haven’t stopped collecting medical supplies, clothing, and funds to support Ukraine since the full-scale invasion, and they are among the hardest workers in these efforts!
Their continued humanitarian aid efforts, including clothing drives, medical aid collections, and other fundraising events, show no signs of slowing down.

It’s a Hard Job — But Someone Has to Do It
The collaboration among Ukrainian groups here in the United States has become an essential part of the humanitarian pipeline to Ukraine — and has proved to be every bit as important as the coordination among groups within Ukraine itself.
You can’t believe the number of times that teamwork and the networking of organizations in the US have been responsible for donated storage space, donated moving trucks, or for obtaining larger donations of supplies.
For them — and for all who continue to support Ukraine from afar — the effort isn’t just important, it’s paramount.

Answering the Call
When the Ukrainian Cultural Club of Dallas learned that funding was urgently needed to secure the July aid container, they did what they always do — they gave. Together with three private donors who asked to remain anonymous, UCCD helped raise nearly all the funds needed. The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America then stepped in to cover the remaining balance and managed the overseas and overland logistics required to move the container safely into Ukraine.
It is my pleasure to report that this cooperation between UCCA, UCCD, and Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach has been successful, and I sincerely hope it will lead to a continual relationship in which we can continue to support our Ukrainian homeland.
The medical supplies and equipment were once again sourced by Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, an organization that has been instrumental in providing high-quality, surplus hospital equipment to underserved communities worldwide.
But sustaining this kind of operation isn’t easy. Hospital Sisters requires an $8,000 subsidy just to continue their mission — and shipping a container door-to-door, from Illinois to its final destination in Ukraine, can add another $8,000 or more.
These containers are routinely filled with more than $300,000 worth of lifesaving medical equipment and supplies — but their true value can’t be quantified. With precious lives hanging in the balance, that value is truly immeasurable.

No Shipment in August — Unless You Make It Happen
August will not see a container headed to Ukraine — and lives will be lost without continued support. The reason is simple: a lack of funding.

While shipments were successfully sent in June and July, the pipeline has now paused — even as the need grows more urgent by the day.
Russia continues to target civilian populations across Ukraine. Air defenses are running low, and more strikes are getting through. As of this writing, Russian forces are massing along Ukraine’s borders and in occupied territories. Hospitals are overwhelmed. Clinics are running out of supplies. People are depending on aid that may no longer arrive.
We don’t know when the next container will go. But we do know the need will remain.
